Suspended porter paid over £90,000
Saturday 21st January 2006, 12:00AM GMT.
A HOSPITAL porter earning £26,000 has been suspended on full pay – plus bonus and overtime allowances – for three-and-half years.
He has been under investigation for allegedly downloading child pornography on his work computer and made his first appearance in the Magistrate’s Court in August 2002.
Since then he has been awaiting a further appearance in court – all the time being paid his usual salary – but the Crown has not been able to proceed with the case.
Health Minister Stuart Syvret has expressed his outrage that the investigations have dragged on so long and that the department has been prevented from employing a replacement.
This has meant other porters have had to cover the suspended employee’s shifts and be paid overtime in the process.
It is understood that the man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, also lives in States housing.
