Trinity cruise into Jeremie Cup final
Monday 23rd January 2006, 12:00AM GMT.
TRINITY will provide either Grouville or Guernsey Northerners with tough opposition in the Jeremie Cup final after an efficient performance on Saturday away to Guernsey St Martin’s.
The joint-leaders of the Coca-Cola Combination had too much quality for the Saints winning 3-1 in the semi-final after goals by Dave Le Roux, Ashley Dodd and Luke Watson.
Once Trinity broke the deadlock in the 12th minute, Le Roux nodding home John Rutter’s fine cross from the right, there was no looking back.
Some tasty challenges flew in and Trinity’s Scott Jones was cautioned for his third foul on Adam Heaume, Jones was later dismissed after another yellow for tripping an opponent.
It turned out to be a bad day for the Jones family as Scott’s brother Stephen was sent off in the abandoned match in Jersey playing for Trinity Reserves against Grouville Reserves.
Trinity were creating good chances before former Manchester United professional Dodd produced a sublime overhead finish to make it 2-0, Rutter again the supplier.
Former under-18 Island captain Watson scored Trinity’s third.
Taking a mishit shot from Jimmy Reilly, Watson neatly chipped the ball over a wrong-footed Nathan Pattimore before knocking it into the net.
Darren Le Tissier nodded home St Martin’s consolation in the second half.
Trinity joint-manager Adam Reid said: ‘Getting the second just before half time put us in the driving seat.
Both teams had a good go and in the end we’re delighted to be in the final.’
