Pupils hit as thieves target the classroom

Tuesday 24th January 2006, 12:00AM GMT.

BURGLARS broke into St Clement’s Primary School and stole vital teaching equipment worth £3,600.

They made off with two laptop computers, a data projector and two digital cameras some time over the weekend.

It is thought that they were in the building in Rue de Chapelle for some time.

Teachers went in yesterday morning to find objects strewn across the offices.

The intruders had rifled through the desks looking for valuables and had also attempted to break into the school safe, but failed.

Head teacher Susan Birtwistle said that the stolen items were very useful teaching aids and that losing them was a real inconvenience.

‘The cameras were bought using money raised by the PTA, so obviously that is sad,’ she said.
