Local heroes of the Holocaust to be remembered
Wednesday 25th January 2006, 12:00AM GMT.
INDIVIDUALS who risked their lives to help the persecuted survive will be celebrated at this year’s Holocaust Memorial Day ceremony.
Islanders will be invited to remember the courage of men such as Albert Bedane, who hid a Jewish woman from the Nazis during the Occupation.
He and many others will be the focus of the event on Friday because the theme for 2006 nationally is One Person Can Make a Difference.
It will celebrate the actions of those in the Second World War and during other episodes of persecution and genocide, such as in Rwanda.
