Shoppers lead the fight against inflation

SHOPPERS are being urged to buy where prices are low, ask for discounts and be thrifty to help to keep inflation down.
And the JEP’s Fair Play team has been singled out for praise for keeping the cost of living low by comparing prices across the Island.
Today the latest inflation figure of 2.2% for the 12 months to the end of December 2005 was revealed.
Although it was up 0.2% on the record low of 2% at the end of September, it was welcomed by Treasury and Resources Minister Terry Le Sueur, as it is still below the States’ target figure of 2.5%.
Both the headline rate and the underlying rate – which excludes housing costs – were 2.2% at the year-end.
