Waitress takes club to tribunal
Friday 27th January 2006, 12:00AM GMT.
A POLISH waitress has claimed she was forced to quit her job because she was sexually harassed and bullied at work.
Ola Kosmider, who worked at the St Helier Yacht Club until September last year, said yesterday at an employment tribunal that her manager, Matthew Wainwright, was racist, would touch her inappropriately and would tell her off in front of club members.
She claimed he had forced a kiss upon her, slapped her across the bottom twice and would tell her that he ‘hated the Polish’.
Miss Kosmider, who has a master’s degree in social physiology and is earning money to continue her studies in Poland, has taken Mr Wainwright to the tribunal for constructive dismissal – when someone feels they have been forced, or have no option left, but to resign.
The tribunal is to continue next Wednesday.
Advocate Daniel Le Sueur told the tribunal that Mr Wainwright would be denying that he is racist and ever sexually harassed his employee.
