Waterfront ‘could create 1,800 jobs’
Wednesday 1st March 2006, 12:00AM GMT.
A DEVELOPED waterfront will create up to 1,800 jobs and boost the Island economy by up to £75m, according to a new report.
Although the waterfront will inevitably drag some retail, hotel and office money away from the rest of town and the Island, the States economic adviser says the overall effect will be good for jobs and the economy.
Dougie Peedle says the ‘net economic benefit’ would be between £35-50m and between 1,000 and 1,600 jobs, and that if the development attracts a finance company that would not otherwise have set up in Jersey, it could make another £25m boost to the Island economy and a further 172 jobs.
