‘We are trying to combat apathy’

THE reluctance of students to take on finance careers does not mean that those who do have failed, says Education Minister Mike Vibert.

Senator Vibert said in the States yesterday that more business schools and finance-led courses, together with more vocational training for younger students, were aiming to recruit able students for careers in one of Jersey’s most important industries.

Senator Vibert was asked by Deputy Andrew Lewis how the department of Education, Sport and Culture was trying to combat an ‘apathetic’ attitude towards taking on roles in banking and investment.

The Senator said that Highlands College, as the main provider of adult education in Jersey, had a formal link with finance bodies and worked closely with them to ensure that students were offered the best chances in finance.
