Raise the age for pensions, says IoD
Thursday 2nd March 2006, 12:00AM GMT.
ISLANDERS should save more and work longer in a bid to cut the rising cost of States pensions, one of Jersey’s leading business organisations said today.
The controversial suggestion to review the age people retire is one of many fundamental changes to working, housing and tax regulations proposed by the Institute of Directors in a new manifesto.
Its 560 members are also calling for lower business taxes and a freeze on allowances so that more people pay tax.
In addition, they are calling for the five-year rule, which requires people to live in Jersey for that period before they can do many jobs without special permission, to be scrapped.
