Island honoured for tsunami response
Friday 3rd March 2006, 12:00AM GMT.
THE Island community was honoured last night for its generous response to the tsunami disaster.
At the annual Jersey Awards for Enterprise ceremony, the people of Jersey – represented by the new charity Jersey Side by Side – received the Guiton Group Ambassador of the Year Award for enhancing the Island’s international reputation.
Islanders responded swiftly and effectively when disaster struck on Boxing Day 2004, Deputy Bailiff Michael Birt told the audience at the Hotel de France, where business entrepreneurs and innovators received awards in other categories (see business section).
The Garenne Group Community Award was presented to Philip Le Claire, of Autism Jersey, who within 18 months has been instrumental in developing an Island programme for sufferers, parents and carers.
