University bills soar
Friday 3rd March 2006, 12:00AM GMT.
IT is ‘almost certain’ that students going to university in September will have pay over £1,000 to meet the UK’s top-up fee demands, according to the Education Minister.
Senator Mike Vibert has also announced that parents who earn over a combined income of £76,000 could lose financial help altogether.
It has been negotiated with all UK universities – apart from Leeds Metropolitan, which has gone for the maximum top-up charge – that Jersey, Guernsey and Isle of Man students will pay an extra £1,350 a year.
Those in the UK are facing a cost of £1,800.
