In brief: Guthrie’s England debut success

NETBALL:Jersey’s Serena Guthrie won her first England cap and a European Junior netball gold medal after three amazing days in Sheffield with the England U17 squad.
She played throughout each of the four matches – against Northern Ireland, Malta, Scotland and Wales – and in a different position on court each time.
MOTORCYCLE TRIALS: Visiting UK trials star Steve Saunders accumulated just three penalty points overall in the Jersey Classic and Modern Trials Club two-day weekend trial to take the expert title.
Jersey’s Lee Rogan was the only other competitor in this class and finished with 100 pts.
Clubman class winner was M Williams with 50 pts; Novice winner was C Fox with 141; B Gent won the twin-shock with just 43 pts; Graeme Du Feu won the Pre 65 (Premier) with 10 pts while in the Pre-65 (Easy) N Walker scored 72 pts.
T Kodri was first in the Easy category with 182 pts.
SHOOTING: The winner of the Modern and Military Arms Association Le Marquand Cup competition, shot at Crabbé on Saturday, was Mark Douglas with a score of 289.
Firing at 25, 15 and ten metres he finished seven points clear of Richard Honeycombe, who scored 282.
Stafford Slater was third with 271.

SHOOTING: There was a tie for High Gun between Class B shooter Sheila Davy and Class A’s Shaun Roberts, who both produced a score of 48 ex 50 in Crabbé Clay Pigeon Club’s 50-bird sporting at the weekend.
Ashley Davy won Class C with 37.

GOLF: Malcolm Berridge and Richard Scorer, with a nett 52 off a 17 handicap won the St Clement’s golf club’s BG Romeril Better ball doubles competition yesterday.
CYCLING: Winners of the first Caesarean Cycling Club’s Sunday event of the 2006 season, the two-up time trial was won by the VSJ duo of Paul Lipscombe and Mark Alsop in 59 min 26 sec.
Their clubmates Bob Cabot and Andy Hamon were second in a time of 1.00.54.
The CCC’s Vince Peron won the individual time-trial, in 54.22with veteran Dave Mayman (CCC) second in 57.14.
GOLF: Jersey Western GC beat St Clement’s GC 5 1/2-1 1/2 in the Hampshire 7-a-side first round knock out competition at La Moye.
Western go on to play Les Ormes at home in the next round.
SAILING: Jeff Speller currently leads the fleet after ten races in the 12-race RCIYC Winter Dinghy Series, with four first places so far, in Fireball.
Leader of the junior section is Charles Perkins, in Geronimo, who has racked up seven first places to date.
GOLF: Mick Le Feuvre won Saturday’s R Le Masurier Trophy competition at the Royal Jersey with a nett 64 off his five handicap.
Colin Campbell was second (82 gross, 67 nett off 15) and Will Taylor third (gross 76, nett 68, handicap 8).
CROSS-COUNTRY: Winners of Saturday’s race 6 in the Alexander Forbes Junior cross-country series at Gorey Common were: Girls: 7/8 yrs: Lauren Lowe.
9/10: Anna Fenton.
11/12: Felicity Johnson-Deeley.
Boys: 7/8: Tom Ward.
9/10: Jack Baudains.
11/12: Elliott Dorey.
GOLF: The Demi Golf Society’s March Monthly Medal competition, played on Saturday, was won by Jon Carter with a nett 57 off 17 hadicap.
Miguel de Castro came in second with nett 59 off 15 and Steve Harben was third with a nett 60 off 14.
DUATHLON: Nick Le Cocq won the Jersey Tri Club PedalPower men’s duathlon at Le Braye yesterday.
Judy Paul, Sarah Corcoran and Laurence Assman finished in that order in the women’s race.
