Car firm taken to tribunal over deduction of wages

Tuesday 7th March 2006, 12:00AM GMT.

CAR dealership Jacksons has been taken to an employment tribunal after a former member of staff claimed her relocation expenses were improperly deducted from her wages.

Lauraine Mackee, who was brought to the Island by Jacksons from Scotland to run the BMW service centre, claimed yesterday that she was left with no option but to resign, therefore constituting a constructive dismissal.

After moving to Jersey in April 2004, Ms Mackee requested £1,700 from the company to cover her first month’s rent and deposit.

She told the tribunal that she asked for relocation expenses and was later presented with a cheque.

However, her payslips, she claimed, started showing deductions under the title ‘misc’ or ‘home loan’.

When she queried these, Ms Mackee claimed she was unable to get a clear answer for some months.
