Pioneering parish sets pace for a green Island

AN innovative recycling scheme to be adopted in St John could soon become second nature to all Islanders if a six-month pilot is successful.

Proposals to implement the new waste collection project were unanimously approved by parishioners at a meeting last night.

The scheme will require residents to separate their rubbish into bins for similar recyclable materials, starting with paper, magazines and metals.

Specially designed receptacles are being prepared at Bellozanne and will be distributed free of charge to all residents who wish to take part in the scheme.

St John Deputy Andrew Lewis is behind the idea, believing that with a little effort, more of our household waste could be recycled – saving resources, time, money and the environment.
