THE Island is beginning to win the fight against smoking with the number of people calling a specialist quitline doubling in the past year, it was revealed today.
The news was released this morning as many Islanders pledged to stub out the habit for good to mark National No Smoking Day.
Julie Luscombe, the health promotion officer for smoking cessation, said that the number of people calling the Health service quitline was very encouraging.
She also runs six to eight-week quitting courses, which have a 66 per cent success rate.
