Eyes down for a full house

THIS year’s Swimarathon got off to a flying start on the stroke of 10 o’clock yesterday morning when the Lieut- Governor, Air Chief Marshal Sir John Cheshire, sounded the starting horn for his last Swimarathon before he leaves the post in July.

First into the Les Quennevais pool were the Jersey DIPS – the Disabled in Pool Swimmers – followed by jam-packed lanes right the way through the afternoon and evening.

Lions Club organiser Eric Bertrand said: ‘It has been going very well and we got off to a great start.

We’ve had a record attendance at the pool and our fingers are crossed that this year we will raise more money than ever.’ Mr Bertrand added that all the lanes so far had been filled and that enthusiasm for the charity-raising event was sky-high.

‘Everyone has been swimming their hearts out and all the teams have been well supported,’ he said.
