Games swimmers stick it out

PREPARING for the biggest competition of your life involves dedication, commitment, practice…

and waxing.

Ranked as one of the most painful things for a man to endure, a full-body wax was all part of the preparation for Jersey’s Commonwealth Games swimming team in Melbourne yesterday.

To make sure they are as streamlined as possible, the boys have all had a full-body wax each ahead of Thursday’s opening competition in the pool and, by the look on Daniel Halksworth’s face, it wasn’t the most enjoyable part of the trip so far.

The team, which also includes Liam du Feu, Simon Le Couilliard and Alexis Militis, are the first Jersey athletes to be involved in any action at the Games and will be swimming on every day from Thursday through to next Tuesday.
