NETBALL: Jersey U14s J United netballers finished top of their regonal group in the National competition heats played in Bournemouth at the weekend, and will travel to Essex in June to compete in the finals, where they will play against the winning teams from all the other regions.

SHOOTING: Jersey shooters claimed medals in most of the classes at the annual Cobo shoot in Guernsey this weekend.

Scott Douglas was overall and class winner in Rifle Class A, claiming gold with score of 1136 and Jersey’s Richard Bouchard, re-classified from Class B, won bronze with 1087.

In Rifle B Shane Lopez Rubio won silver (1063); Sue Ahier won gold in Rifle C (1026), in which Jon Boyden won bronze (986).

Aebhanne Rees Williams won bronze in the Rifle D (986) and Dave Ahier won gold in the Pistol B (990).

INTER-COUNTY CROSS-COUNTRY: Jersey runner Jo McGarry was 23rd in the senior women category at the inter-counties cross country championships at Wollaton Park, Nottingham, on Saturday, finishing with the bronze medal as part of the Hampshire team.

Juniors Felicity Johnson-Deeley and Elliott Dorey, both competing for Hampshire in the U13 category.

Johnson-Deeley crossed the line in 159th place from 292 finishers and Dorey was 98th of 295 finishers.

SCHOOLS NETBALL: The final of the Small schools primary netball tournament held at St Michael’s school on Saturday saw St Martin beat St Peter 5-4, in a very close match.

The beaten semi-finalists were Samarès and St Michael’s Schools.

In the large schools competition, held at Les Quennevais, Beaulieu beat La Moye 8-1 in the final.

The beaten semi-finalists were Rouge Bouillon and JCG Prep.

MOUNTAIN BIKING: Class winners in yesterday’s Race 6 of the CCC/Vittel Water/Mark Pickford’s Cycle Shop Under 12 series were: Five and under: 1, Luc Mont Petit, 2, Jack Lutz, 3, Ben Le Rougetel; 6/7 yrs: 1, Harry Garnham, 2, Michael Milner; 3, Sammy Kermin; 8/9 yrs: 1, Stefan Kermin, 2, Hugh Percival.

GOLF: Andy Hood won the Les Mielles Bogey competition on Saturday with a score of +8 off his 11 handicap.

Tony Hayes was second with +6, handicap 21 and Harry Singleton was third with +4, handicap 16.

SHOOTING: The Modern and Military Arms Association’s B Demoy Shield was retained by Richard Le Brocq on Saturday at Crabbé.

His total score of 110 put him 20 points clear of Mark Douglas.

ATHLETICS: Jon Coote was back to winning form in the Vowden Sports 15k road race at St Ouen yesterday, crossing the line in 54.41 min.

Veteran (M50) Peter Le Couilliard put in an excellent run of 56.42 for second place and Andrew Murfin was third in 57.03.

Kerry Petulla won the women’s race in 1.03.29 with Sarah Corcoran (W35) second in 1.04.31 and Sue Le Ruez (W45) third in 1.05.58.

KARTING: The first race meeting of the 2006 season took place yesterday.

BOWLS: Cyril Starck beat Eddie Le Brun 17-7 in the final of the Over-70s mixed singles competition for the Trinity Bowls Club’s Ricky and Daphne Hawes Trophy.

FENCING: Results from the Jersey Junior Fencing Championships held at Fort Regent on Saturday.

n ST MICHAEL’S RUGBY Visiting team Colstons won the Guy the Gorilla prize and top honours in the St Michael’s School U11 mini rugby 10-a-side tournament, which featured a number of UK and local school teams.

Bedford Modern finished second, Bancrofts third, St Michael’s fourth, VCP fifth, St Michael’s Barbarians sixth.

MASTERS SWIMMING: Jersey’s John Liron won five gold medals – four individual and one team – in the Brittany Masters swim championships at the weekend.

Individuals came in the 50m (34.8 sec) and 25m (15.2) breaststroke, the 25m ‘fly (14.8) and 25m freestyle (12.61).

He won the fifth as part of the Dinan relay team.

RUGBY: Jersey RFC under-16s went down 32-0 away to Petersfield RFC in their Hampshire U16 Division I fixture yesterday afternoon.

Petersfield showed why they are second in the table with a tremendous display of running rugby, although Jersey did hold out well, particularly in the first half.

RUGBY: Victoria College lost their annual rugby encounter with Guernsey’s Elizabeth College on Saturday afternoon at Grainville.

Victoria were a little unfortunate to go down 12-7 as they probably enjoyed more of the possession in an excellent encounter.
