Cutting costs: We’ll listen, say ministers

THE Council of Ministers is setting up a special committee to consider JEP readers’ ideas for cutting public expenditure.

The newspaper has received hundreds of responses to its Public Purse campaign, which was launched last month.

‘More power to your elbow,’ was the response of Deputy Chief Minister Terry Le Sueur, who has confirmed that a group of politicians will be asked to sift through the ideas.

‘We have agreed in principle to set up a small group to look at the Public Purse campaign,’ he said.

‘I think it’s important that the ideas are looked at through independent eyes rather than by the council.’
