THE switching wind around Melbourne has continued to dominate the shooting events.

Over the weekend the rifle shooters found it a big problem and yesterday it was the turn of the full-bore shooters.

In the open pairs in Bendigo, a town about two hours drive north of the city, Jersey’s Richard Benest and David Le Quesne finished ahead of Guernsey in tenth.

But had it not been for the changing wind, team manager Cliff Mallett thinks they could have done better.

He said: ‘Believe it or not, our Jersey lads prefer a strong Jersey wind because at least it tends to blow in the same direction.

‘The wind here seems to whip round in seconds and it is very difficult to shoot against.

This did affect their game and concentration.

‘Despite their final position, I am pleased with their performances because the field is so good here and there are many world class shooters at this competition.

Individual ‘But the thing these boys need to remember is that anyone can win the individual title because everyone starts at the same point.’ The individual rounds of the full bore start tomorrow and conclude on Thursday.

Full scores: Benest: Stage 2 – 48.04, 50.08, 49.05; stage 3 – 72.10, 73.08.

Total: 292.38.

Le Quesne: Stage 2 – 49.07, 50.04, 48.05; stage 3 – 73.10, 73.06.

Total: 293.32.
