BADMINTON: Jersey retained the Veterans inter-insular shield on Saturday, at the Rohais Centre in Guernsey, with a 16-14 overall victory.

Jersey won the men’s doubles 6-3 and the mixed 7-5, despite having to concede two matches in the mixed after the unbeaten Ian Coombs-Goodfellow was injured.

Guernsey won the ladies doubles 6-3.

Jersey player Anton Kriel won the Mahy Trophy for best individual performance.

MOTORCYCLE TRIALS: Junior Adam Le Cheminant won the A route in the Jersey Classic and Modern Trials Club trial at Vicart, St Lawrence yesterday.

Graham du Feu won the B route (Pre 65) and Chris Fox won the C.

Twin shock winner was another junior, Daniel Jeanne and Jon Noel won the Pre 65 class.

Junior A winner was Richard Vibert and Chris Vibert won the Junior B while Amelia Jeanne finished top of Junior C.

The Jersey Motor Cycle and Light Car Club motocross event was called off due to high winds.

SHOOTING: The Modern and Military Arms Association’s Corbett Cup for the best all-round shot was held on Saturday with the experienced Richard Honeycombe winning the title, after shooting rifle, carbine and pistol, with 122 points, 12 ahead of second-placed Tony Satchwell.

Stafford Slater was third with 101.

SAILING: Results of race four in the South Pier Marine Spring Series sailed yesterday were: IRC Cruiser/Races: 1, Voodoo Doll (S Benest); 2, Xtravaganza (M de Figueiredo); 3, Jammin (G Pipon).

RHC Cruiser: 1, Flamin Bagels (B Willing); 2, Cassiopeia (C Weeks); 3, Shasa (B Milner).

GOLF: Dave Smith and Rab Brogan both with 24 handicaps, scored 37 points in the St Clement’s Golf Club’s John Robinson Trophy match yesterday, with Smith edging the win after a countback.

NETBALL: Jersey’s Senior netball team have finished third in the Open Division IV English County League after they drew 39-39 with Avon, and lost 44-37 to East Dorset, playing in the UK at the weekend.

The U16 side, J United, lost both their matches – 48-21 to Avon and 43-39 to East Dorset – but finish a creditable fourth in their first season in Division IV of the ECL U16 league.

SHOOTING: The JRA Martelli Trophy competition for .22 clubs was won by St Helier MRC on Sunday.

Robert and Simon Jelley tied in top place with 91.3 with Simon de Gruchy scoring 87.2 and Sue de Gruchy scoring 86.1.

SHOOTING: CI and Jersey champion Scott Douglas retained his Island crown in yesterday’s Air Rifle Championship, beating seven other shooters in the final at St John’s SC range with a score of 569.

He beat second-placed Tony Edwards by 13 points.

Richard Bouchard was third with 546.

GOLF: Winner of the Demi Golf Society monthly medal competition on Saturday was Jorge Moniz with a nett 64 off 9 handicap.

SAILING: The last two races in the RCIYC Winter Dinghy Series were abandoned due to the strong winds and low temperatures on Saturday.

Overall winner of the Junior series was Charles Perkins (Geronimo) with Alex Harrison (Salty Bean) the runner-up.

In the Open class Jeff Speller (Fireball) topped the table with Steve Pearl (Stratos 2) the runner-up.
