Tuesday 21st March 2006, 12:00AM GMT.

JERSEY’s team of four took part in the final swimming event of the Commonwealth Games today.

The boys – Alexis Militis, Simon Le Couilliard, Daniel Halksworth and Liam du Feu – all swam in the men’s 4x100m individual medley relay and finished eighth in a time of 4 min 00.92 sec.

The Australian team took gold with a new Games’ record time of 3 min 34.37 sec.

Jersey had earlier qualified for the final despite finishing last in their heat.

Their time of 4.01.53 was enough to deny CI rivals Guernsey a place in the limelight.
