Increase in child injuries in road accidents

Wednesday 22nd March 2006, 12:00AM GMT.

THE number of injured child pedestrians taken to hospital last year following road accidents rose by 68 per cent.

In 2005, a total of 34 children were injured in this way, compared to 25 the previous year.

Child accident prevention co-ordinator Louise Hamilton said this was a matter of concern which needed to be addressed.

‘Everyone needs to be vigilant about this increase – drivers, parents and children themselves,’ she said.

With this in mind, the organisation Child Accident Prevention Jersey are holding their third annual child safety conference at St Paul’s Centre on Friday.
