Youth concert to première three works
Wednesday 22nd March 2006, 12:00AM GMT.
THREE pieces of music, written especially for Jersey ensembles by nationally renowned composers, will received their world premières at the Jersey Instrumental Service Spring Concert on Saturday.
The concert, which takes place at Fort Regent, will involve some 450 young musicians culminating in a finale performance of the 1812 Overture complete with cannons.
The three new works – the highest number ever commissioned for a Spring Concert – are: Jersey Suite for Strings, by Philip Bass, written for the Jersey Training String Orchestra; The Harbour: Sunday Morning, composed by Philip Sparke for the Jersey Youth Wind Band; and a fanfare composed by Pete Churchill, for the Senior Brass and Percussion entitled Jazz-fan Fare.
‘This is my final concert in charge of the music service and I’ve sort of indulged myself,’ said concert organiser Colin Amos who retires as head of the Jersey Instrumental Music Service this summer.
Tickets are available from Fort Regent box office.
