Warning to fulfilment industry in UK Budget

A WARNING that Jersey’s lucrative fulfilment industry would be curbed should there be any excessive exploitation of the law which currently allows it to operate was made in the UK Budget yesterday.
Although UK Chancellor Gordon Brown has not altered the £18 VAT threshold for goods shipped from offshore locations – the arrangement that underpins the fulfilment sector – he said that he would consider new regulations if there were excessive exploitation of the rule.
In other respects, the Budget – Mr Brown’s tenth and perhaps his last given the possibility that he will soon become Prime Minister – is unlikely to have dramatic effects on the Island.
