More mobiles than people

MOBILE phones outnumber Islanders, according to the new States statistical compilation.
Jersey In Figures 2005 reports that the number of mobile phones rose to 99,800 last year.
Islanders made 253 million calls and sent 70.4 million text messages.
In contrast, the number of landline phones dipped slightly to 72,000 from 72,100 the year before.
These figures, and many more besides, are included in the Jersey In Figures booklet.
Apart from information on employment, population and the economy, the booklet also includes data on fish landings, the size of the parishes and life expectancy.
The booklet is compiled by the Statistics Unit from figures they publish throughout the year.
