Cupboard is bare for El Tico regulars

EL TICO, the rickety-looking beach café that was a Mecca for the weekend full English breakfast fan, stood dark and deserted over the weekend.

The Five Mile Road tea room closed eight days ago, leaving those who turned up for tea and cake yesterday feeling sorely disappointed.

It sold its last cake in the form it has been known for a generation last weekend.

The building has been stripped of its furniture in preparation for the development of the site, which is owned by St Lawrence Deputy John Le Fondré.

It is still undecided what will be built on the site, but a proposed two-storey building with a café on the ground floor and two self-catering units on the first floor has sparked controversy.
