Guns: All licence requests are sent to police
Tuesday 28th March 2006, 12:00AM BST.
EVERY application for a gun licence in Jersey goes to the States police for their comments, it was revealed in the States today.
Questions about gun ownership were a feature of States debate this morning following the revelations in the Jersey Evening Post last week that there were about 10,000 fire-arms in the Island.
The news provoked an outcry among the public and the politicians.
The chairman of the Constables Committee, Ken Vibert, told the House today that every application to the parishes was processed through police headquarters and the comments of the police considered.
However, he also told States Members that it would be illegal for the parish Constables to refuse to grant any application for a gun licence.
