Our opposition is genuine, say heritage group
Tuesday 28th March 2006, 12:00AM BST.
SAVE Jersey’s Heritage say their opposition to towers on the waterfront is part of a genuine consultation exercise and they will not be silenced by critics from the Chamber of Commerce.
And the group say that over 5,000 signatures on their petition vindicate their position.
In last night’s JEP the group were labelled ‘waterfront wreckers’ with no viable alternatives to the proposals they criticise by Chamber’s tourism committee chairman Bob Henkhuzens.
The latest proposals from Dandara include three towers of 20, 11 and nine storeys of residential accommodation.
The highest tower would be 72 metres tall, but the other two would be shorter than the original plans put forward by American architect Eric Kuhne.
Save Jersey’s Heritage (SJH) chairman Advocate Christopher Scholefield rejected Mr Henkhuzens’ claim that their comments were ‘irrelevant’.
