Jersey to have its own identity on the internet

A CHANGE in internet listings has put Jersey on the map.

Islanders will be able to select Jersey as a ‘country of residence’ when ordering goods from the internet after an agreement from the International Standards Organisation.

Up until now, Islanders had to select the UK as their residence but the ISO, which designates internet codes throughout the world, has accepted Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man as separate jurisdictions.

Chief Minister Frank Walker says the change will make it easier for Islanders to avoid paying UK VAT on their orders, and then go through the process of claiming it back.
