States to have final say on compost site
Wednesday 29th March 2006, 12:00AM BST.
THE States, after all, will have the final say on whether the composting site stays at Havre des Pas.
Transport Minister Guy de Faye told Members that he would bring the location of the composting site back to the House when they debate the location of the new incinerator.
At the last sitting, he had told Members that they would not be making the decision on the composting site which has caused so many complaints from residents of Havre des Pas.
Neighbours have claimed that the unpleasant smell from the works has affected their homes and that house prices will fall in the area.
Some have even said that their health has been affected.
A debate on St Helier Constable Simon Crow-croft’s proposition that would have barred the minister from taking further steps about the composting site was also put off after the protagonists, Mr Crowcroft and Deputy de Faye, agreed to meet and reach a compromise.
