We’ll keep on driving

A THIRD of people who replied to a new major States social survey said that no-thing would make them use their car less than now.
If that will cause a headache to environmentalists and health promoters, news that 14 per cent of respondents were obese will make them see that making the populace more healthy could be a difficult job.
The first Jersey Annual Social Survey produced by the States Statistics Unit is published today and is likely, as the years progress, to form a major part of planning for the future by ministers and departments.
A total of 3,600 forms were sent out to random households asking them about a range of important issues including health, transport, crime, population, pensions and leisure facilities.
More than 1,800 forms were re- turned – a result described by head of statistics Duncan Millard as ‘phenomenal’.
