Campaign against phone masts

Friday 31st March 2006, 12:00AM BST.

A CAMPAIGN is being launched against proposals by Cable and Wireless to erect a mobile phone network site on the tower of the Western Fire Station at St Brelade.

Caroline Coote and Amanda Le Page from Don Farm have organised a meeting at Communicare on Monday evening to discuss their concerns.

Cable and Wireless Jersey have submitted a planning application to erect six antennae on the tower and install nearby cabinets.

Around 50 residents met at the site last night to show their support for the women’s campaign.

Mother of two Mrs Coote emphasised she was in no way targeting Cable and Wireless as she said she believed in competition in Jersey.

‘But I believe all the mobile phone sites due to be erected should be placed well away from residential areas,’ she said.
