Health complaints panel on the way

JERSEY will have an independent panel to hear Islanders’ complaints against the health service by the end of the year.
Currently the Health and Social Services department acts as judge and jury on all complaints, which has sparked claims that the process is biased and has lost people’s trust.
Mike Pollard, the chief executive of Health, said that the Island already had a ‘level one’ complaints procedure which was run by his officers.
However, he explained that complainants currently had nowhere independent to go if they were not satisfied with the findings of those officers.
