Shock for pub regulars as car crashes into wall

Monday 3rd April 2006, 12:00AM BST.

A CAR crashed into the front of the Foresters Arms in Beaumont at 10 o’clock on Saturday night.

The red Ford Escort smashed into tables, chairs and the railing outside the pub.

The impact forced the car’s engine out of the bonnet and on to the ground.

A wheel also came off.

Regulars of the pub said that the noise ‘sounded like a bomb going off’.

Regular Kim Hill said she ran outside to see if anyone was hurt.

She opened the car door and a young man and woman got out, ran across the road and got into another car that sped off.

Painter and decorator Bernie McDonough was in the pub at the time of the incident.

He said: ‘If it had been summer, someone would have been killed.

It’s lucky no one was outside.

The tables and chairs were smashed into the wall of the pub.

The car engine was on the floor.

‘I had only walked in five minutes before.

It sounded like a bomb going off.

It’s just as well it’s an old pub with thick walls.

Kim ran out, opened the car door and asked if they were okay.

They said yes, but then ran off and got in another car.’
