Tory cash link for Island resident

MULTI-millionaire Tom Scott has been linked with a £50,000 donation to the Conservative Party by the Sunday Times.

The chairman of CI Traders has told the JEP he has donated money to the UK party – although he did not confirm the £50,000 figure mooted by the Sunday Times – but says he has not supported political candidates in Jersey and Guernsey in the same way.

Mr Scott says his one foray into Island politics was to support a candidate for Deputy some years ago with ‘a few hundred pounds’ to cover posters expenses, but that the candidate was not elected.

CI Traders owns Le Riches, Ann Street, Safeway, Comprop, the Marks and Spencer franchise, the Mango franchise, Checkers and extensive property in Guernsey, and Mr Scott also has garage interests.

He has lived in the Channel Islands since 1987, and was 13th in a ‘rich list’ compiled by The Publican magazine in September.

Mr Scott said: ‘I have been a Conservative supporter all my life and I give money to worthwhile causes.

I cannot cover them all but I give considerable money away, a lot more than I have given here.

I do believe that we need a change of government in the UK, and I believe this David Cameron is the man for the job.

I like the team he has around him.

Now is probably the time when they need support.’
