New sponsor for football Murattis
Tuesday 4th April 2006, 12:00AM BST.
NEXT month’s senior inter-insular football battle between Jersey and Guernsey will be known as the Cimandis Muratti.
The new sponsors, a division of CI Traders, will sponsor both the men’s Muratti Vase final on Monday, 1 May, and the ladies’ match the day before.
Both matches will be at Springfield.
The agreement, announced by the Inter-Insular Football Committee, is just for this year, although discussions to possibly extend this are planned.
No financial details are being released.
Cherry Godfrey were the previous sponsors of the Muratti, one of the most prestigious sporting events in the Channel Islands.
Said Jersey Football Association president Charlie Tostevin: ‘We are grateful for Cimandis for their support, particularly at a time when many businesses are tightening their belts when it comes to sponsorships.’ The sponsors’ managing director, Paul Luxon said: ‘We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with with what is undoubtedly one of the premier events on the local sporting calendar.’ Jersey lost last year’s Centenary match on penalties after a thrilling 3-3 replay at Springfield.
Jersey’s ladies won 5-1 in Guernsey last year to retain the Inter-Insular Trophy.
