Gun lobby ‘should see massacre film’

SOME States Members would benefit from watching Michael Moore’s anti-gun film Bowling for Columbine, Senator Stuart Syvret said yesterday.

He made the suggestion as the debate about gun ownership in the Island came under the spotlight for the second successive week during question time in the States.

A number of States Members spoke to defend the current system run by the Constables for issuing gun licences, which has allegedly allowed inappropriate people to amass small arsenals.

The Oscar-winning film focuses on the massacre of several young people at a high school in the American town of Columbine.

It investigates the consequences of high levels of gun ownership in the United States.

It was revealed in the Jersey Evening Post two weeks ago that there were more than 11,00 guns in private ownership in the Island.
