Islands back on speaking terms

PEACE has broken out between Jersey and Guernsey.

Guernsey’s Chief Minister, Laurie Morgan, will go to his Policy Council to suggest that ministers from both islands get together to discuss how they can save money through co-operation.

But he has denied that a similar suggestion was made by Jersey’s Chief Minister, Frank Walker, a month ago and ignored.

Deputy Morgan told the Guernsey Press this morning that neither he nor his staff were aware of any such invitation.

This morning, Senator Walker said he was pleased they appeared to have made some headway, but stood by his comments to the Corporate Services Scrutiny panel on Thursday, when he said relations were at a five-year low point and that he had received no response to a previous suggestion for ministers from both islands to meet.
