Jobs: It’s looking good

JERSEY’S economy is showing signs of the ‘green shoots’ of recovery, according to Economic Development Minister Philip Ozouf.
The Senator was speaking after the latest employment figures were released today.
They show, he said, further evidence that ‘there is a degree of optimism for the future but no room for complacency’.
The employment statistics compiled by the States Statistics department for the end of last year showed that 50,230 were in work.
This was up by 640 as compared to the end of 2004 and represented the highest end-of-December figure for three years.
A total of 43,850 or 87% were employed in the private sector – including States trading committees – and 6,383 or 13% directly in the public sector.
