Freak injury stops snooker final
Friday 7th April 2006, 12:00AM BST.
A FREAK accident on a trip to the gents forced one of the players in the Island snooker final to pull out last night.
The match was abandoned after Ian Gould fell down the stairs and put his hand through a glass window in the toilet door.
The final will be resumed in a week’s time when Mr Gould, who was last year’s runner-up, is expected to be fit to resume the contest.
Immediately after the accident, he was taken to the Hospital, but did not require stitches.
‘I cut my thumb and there are several other small grazes around it,’ said Mr Gould.
‘I tripped down a couple of stairs and put my hand out to grab the door handle.
Unfortunately, I missed it, and my thumb went through the glass in the door.
‘Thankfully, it’s not too bad, and we should be able to continue playing the final again in about a week’s time.’ When the snooker match was abandoned, the other finalist, Jeremy Gogan, was two frames to one ahead.
