Education to absorb top-up fees for now
Monday 10th April 2006, 12:00AM BST.
PARENTS will be spared top-up fees this year after Education Minister Mike Vibert backed off from plans to pass increased charges on to students and their families.
His department will cover the £250,000 worth of fees for the first term of the next academic year, and begin a full review of higher education funding.
Although parents and students will not have to pay the £1,350 university top-up fees this year, changes will be made next year including a rise in parental contribution limits for rich families.
