Animals Shelter to set up isolation unit?
Tuesday 11th April 2006, 12:00AM BST.
THE Animals Shelter will have to consider setting up an isolation unit as the threat of bird flu continues, according to the charity’s chairman Nick Blampied.
The Animals Shelter is the only agency that deals with sick or injured wild birds – other vets tend not to deal with them over fears of spreading illness and the States only clear away the carcasses of dead animals.
Mr Blampied fears that they could face contamination if bird flu is found in the Island.
He said the shelter is considering setting up an isolation unit outside the main building, so that even if bird flu is found, the rest of the animals will not be affected.
