Telecom masts: No permit needed
Wednesday 12th April 2006, 12:00AM BST.
JERSEY Telecom did not have to apply for planning permission to put up mobile phone masts because they were a States body – and Planning do not know where all the masts are.
More than 100 mobile bases around the Island have been established by the phone company, and Planning say they want a list by tomorrow of where they are.
However, Jersey Telecom say they will not make the list public because some of the masts are on private land and they are concerned about data protection.
The Planning Department are currently considering applications from telecommunications company Cable & Wireless, who want to establish a mobile phone network in the Island.
They have asked Jersey Telecom to send them a list of the mobile bases so that mast-sharing by both companies can be investigated.
