Jobs worry over sale of properties

SELLING off the Island’s ‘crown jewels’ in the form of States-owned property could result in social problems, according to the Transport and General Workers Union.

But Chief Minister Frank Walker today assured Islanders that Property Services’ proposals to generate more than £22 million through property sales and reviews did not mean that manual workers’ jobs were at risk, the public service was about to be reduced, or that buildings like Fort Regent were now to be sold.

Transport and General Workers Union regional secretary Nick Corbel said the plans had come without warning, and had worried union workers and their families.
