Football:Winner takes all on Monday

Saturday 15th April 2006, 12:00AM BST.

ALL roads lead to La Hague Manor on Monday afternoon for the Coca-Cola Jersey Football Combination Division I play-off.

Champions Jersey Scottish defend the James Marquis Memorial Trophy against St Peter with the winners representing Jersey in the Upton Park Trophy next Saturday in Guernsey against Belgrave Wanderers.

St Peter welcome back utility player Bradley Vowden from honeymoon, while Scottish will be without defenders Scott Devlin, through injury, and Craig Ferey who is away.

Muratti defender Stuart André, a substitute last weekend against Trinity, is likely to come into the heart of Scottish’s defence while wing-back James Scott returns from suspension.

Scottish manager Bob Kearsey said: ‘Losing Scott and Craig is a massive loss, they’ve played a big part in what we’ve been doing of late.

It’s going to be tough but we do we have sufficient strength in depth to cover.

‘I’m confident we can win.

We’ve ground out some good results since the Grouville game four games ago and although it has not been pretty it has been effective.

‘St Peter’s aerial strength worries me, they’ve got good players like Peter Vincenti, Gary Freeman and Dominic Maher and they will be a problem for us at set-pieces without Scott and Craig.

‘St Peter have done a fantastic job getting to the play-off, they have come up on the blindside but they deserve to be there with the results they’ve had.

‘It’s a big game for both clubs, we are both just 90 minutes away from the title.’ St Peter striker Gary Freeman said: ‘We’re all looking forward to the game, obviously it’s going to be tough and Scottish will start favourites.

‘They have a lot of experienced players who have played in big games before, we haven’t.

But we have organisation and young legs in the team and that has helped us to our success this season.

‘Jon Trigg and Martin King had done an excellent job in getting everyone fit this season, myself apart as one of my knees still aches regularly.

‘But with the young legs around me I can get through the games.

Our aim this season was to improve on last and we’ve done that.

‘I see no reason why we can’t win the game, Bradley Vowden I’m sure will be back in defence and if we’re tight and organised like we have been all season I see no reason why we can not get a result.’ Extra parking is available at La Hague Manor on Monday to cope with what is expected to be a bumper crowd to witness the title decider.

Kick-off is at 3 pm.
