JERSEY’s Jamie MacDonald was beaten in the semi-final of the World Indoor Bowls Council Mens Singles in Belfast on Thursday night by Guernsey’s Nick Donaldson.

The teenager lost the clash 12-1, 6-6 fighting back after a rocky start to almost force a sudden death three end match tiebreaker.

Donaldson went 5-0 ahead after three ends before MacDonald got on the card.

However the Guernsey bowler then reeled off seven shots over the next three ends to wrap up the set two ends before it was scheduled to finish.

However, in the second set MacDonald led 3-1 after three ends; 5-2 after five ends and 6-3 after seven with two ends to play.

Just as the tiebreak looked on Donaldson’s experience told and he scored a double and then a single to tie the set and clinch his final place.

MacDonald admitted: ‘I am disappointed but felt I acquitted myself well in the second set after struggling in the first.

However I have enjoyed being here and competing at this level.’ Donaldson added: ‘Jamie had me worried in the second set and he is definitely an exciting prospect and one for the future.’ Jersey bowls official Gus McKinnon, said: ‘Sometimes we forget how young Jamie is but the experience he is gaining in events like this is invaluable.

I was proud of him out there this evening.’
