St John’s lady footballers target the Upton
Saturday 15th April 2006, 12:00AM BST.
LADIES’ football champions St John bid for their third piece of silverware today in Guernsey.
The Saints are playing in the Upton against Sylvans and they are looking to add the JFA Centenary Bowl to the Coca-Cola Combination Championship and Colin Welsh KO Cup already in their trophy cabinet.
Saints’ goalkeeper Beverley Luton said: ‘We’ve had an excellent season and we’re looking to finish it off with another victory.
It’s been a great effort from all the squad.
Team-spirit has been first class and when we celebrate we celebrate together as a squad.
‘Coaches Jayson Lee and Paul Kemp deserved credit.
They have helped to improve our fitness with many good training sessions.
It’s been interesting, too – there’s been no boring running and we’ve trained with the ball.
It’s obviously helped because we’ve shone on the pitch.’ Lori Morin and Kirstin Buttle-Ulvin miss the game because they are out of the Island.
The match is at The Track and kick-off is 2 pm.
St John squad: Rachel Bowker, Tracy Cahill, Karen Gaygill, Becky Darts, Jane Gallichan-Todd, Kelly Hughes, Beverley Luton, Fiona Mackinnon, Mich Rihoy, Jules Rihoy, Laura Robertson, Zoe Smart, Helen Warren and Nina Woods.
