Lapping up the action

Tuesday 18th April 2006, 12:00AM BST.

THOUSANDS of Islanders enjoyed a sporting extravaganza yesterday with a dramatic football title play-off, the first horse race meeting of the season and the Bouley Bay Hill Climb.

Around 2,500 people went to Les Landes, St Ouen, and enjoyed five races as well as the usual eating and drinking outlets and crown and anchor games, and enthusiastic punters were, no doubt, put in the mood by last weekend’s Grand National.

An estimated 2,000 Islanders watched both classic and modern cars try to beat the clock racing up Bouley Bay Hill throughout the day, and another 800 people went to La Hague Manor to watch a first division football title play-off between Jersey Scottish and St Peter.

The parish side eventually won 6-4 after extra time, taking their third league title in six years.
