Magpies FC back in the top flight

Tuesday 18th April 2006, 12:00AM BST.

MAGPIES clinched promotion back to Division I after gaining the point they needed with a 2-2 draw against Jersey Nomads at the Airport on Saturday.

Twice Ken Addison’s side led and twice they were pegged back, the second time just three minutes from the finish.

Addison said: ‘It was a nervous end to a game we should have won, but you have to take your chances when they come along.

‘It’s great for the club to be back, we went down two years ago because only 14 players signed after the previous manager left.

‘We did not have enough players to run a reserve team so under league rules we had to drop down.

We’re now back and deservedly so, as our league record shows.

‘Now we have more hard work ahead of us and hopefully we can attract a few younger players ready for the start of next season.’ Steve Cumming bagged both for Magpies with Nomads replying through Ged O’Donoghue and Steve Holt.

Portuguese Club finished third, a point behind Magpies, after they beat Sporting Academics 5-1 at Les Quennevais.

Freddie Mendes and José-Manuel Vieira scored two apiece for the winners and Gabriel Marques a single.

Sean Doran replied.

St Martin/SCF returned 6-1 victors from St John following goals by Mark Nightingale (three), Jason Harris (two) and Matt Polglaise.

Junior Anthony Norman hit St John’s consolation from 80 yards, the home goalkeeper touching on an indirect free kick into his own net.

Division I Reserves St Peter completed their season with a 3-1 success at home to Rozel Rovers.

Darren Freeman scored twice and Lee Turner once.

Richard Stevens (two), Alex Buesnel and Martyn White were on target in Grouville’s 4-0 win against Jersey Scottish at Le Boulivot.

Stephen Ruiz (two), Kieran Le Marquand and James Jones notched First Tower’s goals in a 4-2 win against Jersey Wanderers at La Hague Manor.

Marc Reid and Dave Cooper replied.

St Ouen must win at Trinity on Tuesday 25 April or they will be relegated.

If St Ouen do win Wanderers will drop down a division.

St Brelade and Sporting Academics will play-off for the Division II Reserves title after they finished level on points.

The play-off is at the IJ Bathe Field on Saturday at 2.30 pm.

Both sides have won promotion after hitting six on Saturday, St Brelade without reply at home to nine-man Magpies while the Accies won 6-2 at St John.

Neil Hacquoil (three), Sean Cairns, Nico Bisson and Ben Naylor scored for St Brelade; Michael Perreira (two), Ged Horgan (two), Ryan Ennis and Marcus Reinsch for the Accies and John Michel and Matt Cornick for St John.

Portuguese Club returned 5-3 winners from St Clement.

Division C runners-up St Peter won by the odd-goal in five at home to St Brelade following two goals by Rab Campbell and Tim Ward’s single.
